11AM How about a Compromise? One Could Be a Priest

Young wife sighing: All I pray for is a gay son.
Husband: All our sons will be straight.
Young wife: Just the youngest one can be gay. I need one gay son. You won't even notice.
Husband: No, it won't happen. Costa Ricans don't have gay sons. And I want my name passed on.
Young wife: I'll wait until you go to work, then put makeup and heels on him and let him be himself. I need someone to talk to when you are gone.

So there is a priest, a rabbi, and a minister....

You know, I have always said that I hoped my son would be gay. That way he would stay close to me for the rest of his life. I feel a secret thrill when he wants to buy princess crowns and fairy wands in the hope that maybe he might be a boy who shirks the usual "run from Mommy" syndrome that plagues the common straight man. I will accept my fate, though, and cope with the distance when it comes. I don't believe stereotypes apply to my family anyway.

seems that the joke is a stereotype as well as hannah's comment. justcurious why the assumption that if a son is gay he will then stay close to his mom more?

I think it's oedipal.

but an oedipal complex has nothing to do with a son being gay

Hannah said...

Actually, it does! Freud thought an oedipal complex could cause homosexuality. In addition, a homosexual man would never have to give up his mother to accept a wife.

so an electra complex "causes" a girl to be a lesbian with that logic.

Hell, that whole post could be a conversation between me and Thisandthat. If the Oedipal / Electra complex stuff is true, our house is like the GLBT Youth Resource Center.

Say what you will about Sigmund, that guy must have been the bomb-diggity at parties!

man, i go on vacation for a week and people start talking about Freud!?
I just thought this was funny, I wasn't really trying to analyze it, but I always was a bit confused when I've heard mothers who are bothered by the idea that their children might turn out gay. It's not like they are the ones having sex with them, why should it matter?

how was the show???? so sad we couldn't make it. you'll just have to have a return engagement!

The show was really good. It was stressful to pull it together, but well worth it. We had a great turn out and should have a dvd out soon. Sorry you missed it. I'll try to get a few pictures up from it. Everyone asked when we're doing out next one. That I cannot answer. I need a break from stress for a bit. Gardening is all I have planned for awhile.
